Commenting on the report, an analyst from Market Reports Center’s team said: “The microsatellites can act as a resource that can indirectly contribute to the functions of bigger satellites. A team of researchers from the Missouri University of Science and Technology directed their efforts to develop a microsatellite imagery to monitor the health of satellites with sensitive functions such as global security and weather monitoring.”

According to the report, innovations in satellites and antenna technology, along with the nimble and high-capacity global networks, have brought military forces into the limelight of technology and capability. The emergence of inflatable SATCOM antennas, designed for ground military use in remote areas and harsh weather, is one such significant development. They are set up at locations where the movement and installation of standard rigid satellite antennas are challenging.

Further, the report states that since the beginning of space activities more than half a century ago, there have been more than 4,800 satellite launches. These launches have placed more than 6,000 satellites into the orbit. After their mission life, many of the satellites were decommissioned. Thus, only less than thousands of these satellites in orbit are still operational. Many of the upper stages and other objects of decommissioned satellites left from the launch remain in orbit, which contribute to the space debris. The numerous rocket launches since the beginning of space exploration have already left a substantial amount of debris around the earth's orbit, which are a major risk to space missions as the impact from debris as small as 1 cm can also result in the destruction of the system.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
About Military Satellite Payloads and Subsystems

Military satellites are primarily used for reconnaissance and surveillance, communications, signals intelligence, navigation, and meteorology. However, as of December 2015, only the US and Russia operated satellites for all the five aforementioned areas. Most countries either use a small number of military satellites or rely completely on commercial satellites for their military requirements.
